Lately, while reading the Bible, I have found myself more and more engrossed in what I am reading. Perhaps it is because I have come to read it as a page in history rather than a story book for Christians….or Jews for that matter. I decided that since I have confirmed my relationship with Christ, I should read the book that God sent to man in His honor. I have done pretty well so far.. and have made it to 1st Chronicles since February. My goal is to get the entire word of God into my brain by the end of the year.
So, I have a question; why do people think that the Bible was written by stone-age type neanderthals? What’s more, why do people think that the Bible is full of fictional stories? I must admit that before I knew God, I also believed these things. Since reading, however, I have come to realize that those misconceptions couldn’t be further from the truth. Would it be unreasonable for a person to actually sit and try to read it, rather than bash what they haven’t even tried to understand?
Don’t get me wrong, I am not trying to start a war here. I am simply stating that one cannot form judgment upon a thing unless it has been studied…and reading something another person wrote about the Bible doesn’t count. Read it for yourself. The Bible seems like a mystery that one needs to decipher.. but when Christ is in your life the words become clear. I am going to do a little experiment, as an example.
I am ow typing with my eyes closed. This is what life was like before I had Christ in it. I can’t see what I am doing, and I may be making mistakes, but I cannot see how to fix them. As hard as I try, I cannot seee to go back to correct the wrongs. It is truy ethat I , myself, felt as though I was walking around aimlessly in the dark. Sometimes, I would sit and ponder on what I was doing wrogn, and sometimes I would pray and ask God to explain what I could do to fix it all… and although God heard my prayers, He didn’t answer them until years later. Now, looking back , I realize that it was all part of His plan to make me who I am now. Whithought all of those experiences, I wouldn’t be able to write this to you know whith any kind of authority on the subject.
Ok, enough of that!
Reading the Bible can be like that, too. Once your eyes are opened to Christ, and you accept that He is who He says He was, you will be able to see clearly, too! It’s really just that simple. Do you know who Jesus is? Have you ever thought about what He was like, or what He did while here? Before He was born here on earth as an infant, Jesus was part of the entire plan. He was there for the creation of the universe, the stars, and every creature on this planet. He was intricately involved in knitting together the first man, as well as whomever will be the last.
So what’s the big deal? Why are there so many haters out there? If I were Buddhist would you read my words about my religion and inwardly think that I am out there trying to brainwash you? Or would you read it as an honest expression of my beliefs? Religion, as defined by Dictionary.com is: a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects. Does that mean that if you are an atheist that you also belong to a sort of religion? Isn’t it true that man has decided what constitutes a certain religion, and not God?
If we judge Christianity on this, then by the very nature of the definition, it is not a religion at all. Do you know any Christian groups that agree upon specific beliefs and/or practices? I don’t. I therefore have concluded that being a Christian is not putting myself in a religious category, it is putting my faith in Christ to lead me. If I let go of what I want, He puts me where I need to be… His will be done… not mine. True Christianity is not accepted because it is not self centered or derived. I did not create it… it is not all about me… I am not supposed to hold in the knowledge God has given me in His book and ponder upon it until I myself have become a god… His will is that no one perish, but that everyone should come to know the one true God.
And by the way, He gave us the tool to do just that.. the Bible. It is a history book chock full of how to live your life for Him, and what things constitute right from wrong. It speaks directly to the situations you are in now, every time you read (thus we call it the ‘living word’). Above all else, the Bible is a documentation of the life and lineage of Christ…our only way to salvation, and Heaven. If you aren’t going to Heaven, you are going somewhere else… hell. I am led to write about what I am learning, but no matter how many times I may write it, the answers will not be clear until you open the book that explains it all.
John 3:16 ‘For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.’
1 Peter 1:23 ‘For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.’
