Proverbs 1:1-7 – The Beginning of Knowledge

The proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel:

2 To know wisdom and instruction,
to understand words of insight,
3 to receive instruction in wise dealing,
in righteousness, justice, and equity;
4 to give prudence to the simple,
knowledge and discretion to the youth—
5 Let the wise hear and increase in learning,
and the one who understands obtain guidance,
6 to understand a proverb and a saying,
the words of the wise and their riddles.
7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge;
fools despise wisdom and instruction.

A translation:

Proverbs of Solomon –

These words are for attaining wisdom and discipline. They are for learning how to be just; for giving cautiousness to those who have not learned the hard way. If you are wise.. add to it. If you know right from wrong.. be guided, and understand these words from the wise.

Fearing God is the first step in knowing anything, but fools refuse to acknowledge Him.

***

Ask yourself:

Have I acknowledged that God exists?

Am I wise apart from God? Is it even possible?

Have I acknowledged God in the things I think, do, and say each day?

***

Know this:

You cannot be wise apart from God, and the words of scripture can guide you.
