Proverbs 2 – The Value of Wisdom

1 My son, if you receive my words
and treasure up my commandments with you,
2 making your ear attentive to wisdom
and inclining your heart to understanding;
3 yes, if you call out for insight
and raise your voice for understanding,
4 if you seek it like silver
and search for it as for hidden treasures,
5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.
6 For the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding;
7 he stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
he is a shield to those who walk in integrity,
8 guarding the paths of justice
and watching over the way of his saints.
9 Then you will understand righteousness and justice
and equity, every good path;
10 for wisdom will come into your heart,
and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul;

11 discretion will watch over you,
understanding will guard you,
12 delivering you from the way of evil,
from men of perverted speech,
13 who forsake the paths of uprightness
to walk in the ways of darkness,
14 who rejoice in doing evil
and delight in the perverseness of evil,
15 men whose paths are crooked,
and who are devious in their ways.

16 So you will be delivered from the forbidden woman,
from the adulteress with her smooth words,
17 who forsakes the companion of her youth
and forgets the covenant of her God;
18 for her house sinks down to death,
and her paths to the departed;
19 none who go to her come back,
nor do they regain the paths of life.

20 So you will walk in the way of the good
and keep to the paths of the righteous.
21 For the upright will inhabit the land,
and those with integrity will remain in it,
22 but the wicked will be cut off from the land,
and the treacherous will be rooted out of it.

A translation:

My child, if you accept these words and commands – turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding – and if you seek wisdom and understanding with all your heart, and if you search for it like a treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find knowledge that only comes from God.

For it is all only given from God.

He will give it to you if you do it with a good heart and protect your journey, and you will understand fairness and justice. Wisdom will enter your heart and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. You will be able to discern and stay safe, and understand to guard your heart, which will deliver you from evil men and their speech.

They discredit righteousness so that they can stay in the dark, and delight in all their evil ways. Their paths are crooked.

If you turn to wisdom and understanding, you will not be deceived by that evil that forgets who God is and what He can do. For that evil will lead to death, and no one can come back from death…so walk in righteousness and be God’s people. Keep your integrity and remain His.

But the wicked will be cast aside.

Ask yourself:

Do you accept the words of God, the Bible? Have you sought wisdom out through the pages of the book that claims authority directly from the One who created everything?

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. – John 1:1-5

Know this:

You must be connected to truth to be able to know the truth.

Jesus says it like this: “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit…. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine and you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” – John 15:1-5
